Mary L. Dillard, 90, of Waynesboro, went to be with the Lord, Sunday, October 6, 2019. She was born July 25, 1929, in Nelson County, a daughter of the late Charlie Samuel Diggs, Sr. and Mealie Frances Awkward Diggs.
Mary was a member of Union Baptist Church of Avon where she was a member of the Church Choir and the CDDs. She was made an honorary member of the Usher Board after serving as an Usher for 50 years.
She loved family gatherings with family and friends; laughing, talking and just having fun and she was known for her smile.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William C. Dillard and four children, Gloria, William, Edward and Barbara.
She leaves to celebrate her home going, her daughter, Earsline (James) Carter, and sons, Donald, Allan and Michael Dillard; one brother, Sidney Diggs; five sisters, Fannie Wells, Ruby Dillard, Bernice (Alvin) Jackson, Allene (John) Jackson and Blanche Giles; one brother-in-law, James Dillard; special grandson, Alphonso Dillard; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
We thank God for the many years she was here with us.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, October 11, 2019, at Union Baptist Church, 783 Avon Road, Afton 22920, conducted by Pastor B. J. Coleman, with Eulogy by The Rev. Phillip A. Carter. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, October 10, 2019, at Charlton and Groome Funeral Home, 619 Lifecore Dr., Fishersville and other times at Shenithia Carter’s home.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the Shenandoah Nursing Facility and a heartfelt love to the Toomey Family for many years of their love and support.
