Loyd A. Fitzgerald

Loyd A. Fitzgerald, 79, of Stuarts Draft, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 11, 2018 in Fishersville.

He was born on August 16, 1938 in Stuarts Draft to the late Woody Fitzgerald and the late Viola Painter Fitzgerald.

He retired after 55 years as a Diesel Mechanic and Welder. He was employed with Virginia Tractor and owner of Fitzgerald Welding Co. He was a member of Spring Valley Church as an Ordained Minister. He loved playing music at nursing homes and churches with a small band and friends.

Loyd was a kind, quiet, self-taught, gentle man who loved to play music with his friends and he loved farming and his family.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brothers, Charles and Donald Fitzgerald and sisters, Elma Rickman and Myrtle Peters.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Wilda Rowe Fitzgerald; children, Michelle Loan of Stuarts Draft and Teresa Layman and husband, Douglas Layman of Stuarts Draft; grandchildren, Leslie Marvin, David Loan and Megan Layman; great grandson, Jackson Chandler; brother, Ernest Fitzgerald of Greenville, VA; sisters, Rachael Conner of Greenville, VA, Becky Rankin of Greenville, VA and Ruth and Robert Cook of Florida.He also is survived by many nieces and nephews and a sister-in-law, Wanda R. Wooten of Fenton, MI.

The family will receive friends from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Thursday, February 15, 2018 at Charlton and Groome Funeral Home, 619 Lifecore Drive, Fishersville, VA 22939.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, February 16, 2018 at Spring Valley Church Cemetery in Stuarts Draft.
