Katherine (Kat) Miller Lawhorn

Katherine (Kat) Lawhorn finished her earthly journey early Sunday morning July 2, 2017.  She left a worn and pained body for a fresh new adventure.  She will be missed by almost everyone who ever met her, but especially her loving family and friends.

She was born October 15, 1931 on Riverside Farm, near Stuarts Draft, Virginia to her adored parents, Robert Cecil Miller and Madeline Snead Miller, a beautiful place for her happy childhood which she would cherish for rest of her life. She was a member of the first graduating class of Wilson High School, in 1950 after which she met, fell in love with and wed Theodore (Doe) W. Lawhorn, Sr. and spent 56 years making a life together.  During that time she worked as a homemaker and then for many years, until retirement, as an employee of General Electric.  But most of all, for all of her life she worked at being a wonderful daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, supporting and nurturing what she loved the most, her family.

She is survived by her loving children: Theodore (Teddy) Lawhorn, Jr. and his wife, Sarah Lawrence, Richard Lawhorn and his caregiver, Tim Garrette, Katherine Lawhorn Fitzgerald and her husband, Fred; her grandchildren, Trenor (Trey) Lawhorn and wife, Jennifer, Andrew Fitzgerald, Jesse L. Johnson and wife, Maria, and Jenny Dale Johnson; her great grandchildren, Madaline Lawhorn, Katherine Lawhorn, Serenity Johnson, Cheyenne Atole Johnson, Eliza Atole Johnson and Lucinda Nicholes; her sisters, Mary Ellen Miller, Ann Beam and husband, Frankie and Jane  Sterrett.

No longer surviving, but much missed grandson, Robert Houston Fitzgerald; brother, Robert (Bobby) Miller and wife, Elva and brother-in-law, Sam Sterrett.

Also, too numerous to mention, but no less loved nieces and nephews and their families.

The family will receive family and friends at Calvary United Methodist Church, Wednesday, July 5th from 6:00pm until 8:00pm with a short funeral service in the church on Thursday, July 6th at 11:00am followed by a burial service in the cemetery directly adjacent to the church.

The family would like to thank all of the many wonderful and caring people that have helped Katherine in her journey. University of Virginia Healthcare, Kings Daughters Rehab Center, Hospice of the Shenandoah and a very special thank you to Dr. Dennis Hatter for the many years of care he gave.
