Helen Via Obituary

Helen C. Via, 90, of Waynesboro, went to be with the Lord on Monday evening, April 8, 2019, at Royal Care of Staunton, surrounded by her family. She was born in Nelson County, November 10, 1928, a daughter of the late Louie Alton Critzer and the late Ollie Jane Henderson Critzer.

Helen was a member of Blue Ridge Chapel Church of the Brethren and she was a strong and positive person.  She was an avid gardener who loved the outdoors. She enjoyed painting for years and loved cooking, shopping, sewing and quilting.

She was strong and courageous all of the time, as she loved life.  She found beauty and good in everything and took life a day at a time, never dwelling on the hard times and tough situations.  If you were ever feeling “down”, just a few minutes with her and you felt encouraged and reminded of what she used to say, “This too shall pass.”.  When people met her, they found an unexpected love and everlasting friendship.  She said her prayers every single night and she didn’t leave anyone out. She had the wonderful ability to take the tough challenges in her life and help you see them in a way that made you feel better. She was a good listener.  She practiced gratitude and always thanked everyone for everything, no matter how small.  Her heart was filled and kindness.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Nelson Via; her son, E. Michael Via; her sister, Doris Jean Via McCauley and her brothers, Somerfield Critzer, Harvey Critzer, Kenneth Critzer, Ralph Critzer, Freddie Critzer and Charles Critzer.

Survivors include her loving daughter, Doris V. Floyd and her husband, Gary W. Floyd of Stuarts Draft; her brother, David Critzer and his wife, Pat of Crimora; her sisters, Sylvia Cook and her husband, Malcolm Cook, Jr., of Harriston, Betty Higgs of Scottsville and Laura Love and her husband, Bill Love of Stuarts Draft; three grandsons, Matthew T. Floyd, Mark A. Floyd and Jason D. Via; two great-grandchildren, Lilly Grace Floyd and Benjamin Thomas Floyd and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 12, 2019, at Blue Ridge Chapel Church of the Brethren, 19 Browns Lane, Waynesboro, conducted by Pastor Mike Woods. Interment will follow in Augusta Memorial Park.
