Charles Edward “Huck” Johnson, Sr., 69, of Waynesboro, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at his home. Huck was born on March 18, 1949 in Charlottesville to the late Willis Ned Johnson and the late Marie T. Richardson.
He graduated in 1967 from Waynesboro High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1971 as a Specialist Four. He retired in 2011 from F.R. Drake as a Press Brake Operator. Huck was a member of St. James Baptist Church where he participated in the men’s choir. He enjoyed working on automobiles and working in his yard. Huck was a jack of all trades. He was an avid Washington Redskins fan and enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports.
Left to cherish his memory are his spouse of 46 years, Hilda Washington Johnson; children, Kimberly Johnson, Stacy Johnson, Charles (Faith) Johnson, Jr., Michael Johnson and Stephen Lee; grandchildren, Adrian Johnson, Emya Gwathmey, Jayson Lee, Shaniel Berry, MaKai Johnson, Charles Johnson, III, Jakai Johnson, Javon Wells, A’mya Swats, Chantelle Johnson, Michael Johnson. Jr., Laken Johnson, Patrick Johnson and Kailee Louk; great grandchild, Charlee Bannan; Siblings, Marion Awkward, Ned (Becky) Johnson, Gale Price, Charles (Shirleen) Richardson, Ronald (Rosetta) Richardson, devoted sister-in-law, Carol Brooks, Barbara Malloy, Stella Summers, Deborah (Kenny) Williams, Brenda (Gerald) Blair, brother-in-law, Douglas Washington; a very dear cousin and special friend, Francine Johnson and friend, Johnny Nicholas.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 18, 2018 from 11:00am to 12:00pm at St. James Baptist Church, 1094 Albemarle Ave. Waynesboro, VA 22980 and where funeral services will be held at 12:00pm, conducted by Rev. A. T. Crawley and Minister, Gerald Blair.
Interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery with Military Honors.
