James Coffey Obituary

James Everett Coffey, 89, of Chesapeake, VA, passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2024 at Harrisonburg Health and Rehab. He was born in Lexington, VA, on May 1, 1934, a son of the late Saylor Marshall and Margaret Coffey.

James worked his last 16 years as  a  First Team Delivery Driver for First Team Toyota until his retirement. He was a member of Covenant United Methodist Church and Portsmouth Street Rod Club. Collecting Cowboy and Indian memorabilia and putting together puzzles were a few of his favorite hobbies.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings: Johnny Coffey, Dolly Snodgrass, and Cecil Coffey and his spouse, JoAnn Coffey.

Left to cherish his memory is his son, Richard Coffey and wife, Julie of Waynesboro; step-children, Ronald Brown and Debra Brown; grandchildren, Tyler Brown and Alyssa Brown; siblings, Mary Brown and Dorothy Lewis, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2pm on April 20, 2024 at Covenant United Methodist Church, 2004 Dock Landing Rd., Chesapeake, VA, with Pastor Tommy Suh officiating. The family will receive friends to honor James’s life on May 4, 2024 at 4pm at the home of Richard and Julie Coffey, 62 Bent Creek Ln., Waynesboro, VA.

The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to Mr. Earl Scott, Mary Freeman, Sheral Quinn, LeeAnn Szwydek, Pastor Tommy Suh, Loretta Moody, and Leon Saunders for the many years of friendship, loving care, and prayers for James and his family.
