Donnie Elwood Brooks, 81, of Staunton passed away at his home, surrounded by his family, on Tuesday, March 12, 2024. He was born in Augusta County on June 11, 1942, son of the late Marvin William Brooks and the late Helen Hite Brooks.
Donnie, a Foreman with D. M. Conners Sand and Gravel, retired in March of 2023. He was a member of New Covenant Church of Greenville.
Donnie enjoyed NASCAR, hunting, fishing and spending time with his family and pets. He was a hard working man who was very dedicated to his job. He will be missed by all who knew him!
The family would like express their appreciation to the Augusta Health-Hospice of the Shenandoah care team (Mary Fletcher) and his Social Worker, Brianna Via, for the care given Donnie.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Danny Brooks and two brothers, Coy Brooks and Butch Brooks.
Survivors include his wife, Patsy Brooks, they were married 58 years ago, on January 10, 1966; his daughter, Christine Chaplin and her husband, Walter; his daughter-in-law, Angie Brooks; five grandchildren, Erica Brasuel, Jessica Cusson, Michael Cusson, Anthony Brooks and Dakota Brooks (Lilianna); eight great-grandchildren, Jaylin, Jeremiah, JaLeigha, Nova, Savanna, Skyler, Drew, Dakota Jr. and Daniel; his Twin sister, Doris Bryant and sisters, Sandy Taylor and her husband Bennie and Linda Brooks; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Tommy Waybright (Linda), Bobby Waybright, Brenda Hansbrough, Georgie Schages, Peggy Caricofe and Polly Henderson and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6PM -8PM, Friday, March 15, 2024 at the Charlton and Groome Funeral Home, 619 Lifecore Drive, Fishersville. At other times the family will receive friends at the residence, 1511 Springhill Rd., Staunton, Virginia.
Graveside Funeral Services will be held at 11:00AM, Saturday, March 16, 2024 at Oaklawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens, 1921 Shutterlee Mill Road, Staunton, conducted by Pastor Joe Sherrill. Serving as Active Pallbearers will be Michael Cusson, Frank Smith, Dakota Brooks, Billy Taylor, Chris Clark and Jeremy Redman. Family and Friends will assemble at the cemetery for the service.
As Donnie was known to say, “HIT THE GATE.”
