Carl Eugene Wilfong

Carl Eugene Wilfong, 76, of Staunton, passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2024 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Highland County on March 16, 1947, a son of the late Norley Elias and Nellie (Simmons) Wilfong.

Carl proudly served in the United States Marines and was employed for many years at Smith’s Transfer.  He later worked as a farmer and was able to see his dream of “Yonder Farm” becoming home to his grown children and grandchildren. Carl loved his family and over the years, he and his wife, Carol opened their home to dozens of foster children.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife, Carol (Willard) Wilfong; a daughter, Tammy Drega; brothers: Glen Wilfong, Norley Orion Wilfong, Charles “Chuck” Wilfong, Melvin Wilfong, Berlie Wilfong, and a sister, Viola May (Wilfong) Anderson Chote.

Survivors include the second love of his life, Jolene Clark; his children, Gena (Wilfong) Johnson and husband, Travis, Tina (Wilfong) Bowersox and husband, Rennie, and Corey Dorsett and wife, Jessie; grandchildren, Joshua Drega, Bo Bowersox, Hannah (Johnson) White and husband, Jonathon, Will Bowersox  and his girlfriend, Cassidy Davis, Sarah Johnson and her boyfriend, Colton Lavender, Camden Dorsett, Paetyn Dorsett, and Raena Jean Dorsett; great grandson, Cason Samuel White; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11am at Oaklawn Mausoleum & Memory Gardens on Friday, March 15, 2024 with Pastor John Hamric officiating.  Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery. Serving as Active Pallbearers will be Rennie Bowersox, Travis Johnson, Bo Bowersox, Will Bowersox, Jonathon White, Colton Lavender, Carl Wilfong and Roger Sensabaugh.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Dee Pultz, Larry Shifflett and Donald Bowersox.  

The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 14, 2024 from 6pm until 8pm at Charlton and Groome Funeral Home in Fishersville.
