Robert Lee Stover of Fishersville, died Saturday, April 29, 2017 at Augusta Health, Fishersville. He was born at Doe Hill, Highland County, Virginia, on November 2, 1924, the son of the late Dr. John F. Stover and Mary Ellen Wimer Stover.

Robert married Mary V. Hutzell in 1948 who preceded him in death in 1991.  Robert re-married in 1992 to Rejulia (Judy) Cox Clarke.  He was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard F. Stover and Thomas M. Stover, and by Karen Reed, his stepdaughter.  Survivors include his wife, Rejulia (Judy) C. Stover; his mother-in-law, Claudia S. Cox; two brothers-in-law, Donald N. Cox and his wife, Eleanor and Gary W. Cox and his wife, JoAnn; several nieces, nephews and cousins, and his special friends, David Reed and wife, Jenny Reed.

He served in World War II with the U. S. Marine Corps in the Pacific Theater, including occupation of Okinawa. After the war, he attended Davis & Elkins College and completed special courses in Traffic Management at the University of Tennessee.  Robert was employed by Smith’s Transfer Corporation for 35 years and retired as Vice President of Traffic.  He was a past president of the Verona Ruritan Club. He also served with the U. S. Coast Guard Auxiliary for 12 years, serving as Flotilla Commander at Waynesboro and Smith Mountain Lake.

A Celebration of Life Service is scheduled for 4:00 p.m., Saturday, May 6, 2017, at Fishersville United Methodist Church, 1600 Jefferson Highway, Fishersville. 

In lieu of flowers, if desired, memorial donations may be made to Fishersville United Methodist Church for either The Craig Upton Memorial Endowment Fund (for the Christian Education of the elementary children) or for the Church Building Fund, payable to Fishersville United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 1049, Fishersville, VA  22939.

There will be a private burial service in Oak Lawn Memory Gardens.
