Rena E. Jones

Rena E. Jones, 80, of Stuarts Draft passed away Wednesday, April 11, 2018.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, W. Porter Jones whom she loved; a granddaughter, Keri Ann Carter whom she loved and cherished; a brother, Ray Evans; and a sister, Rita Watkins.

She is survived by her children, Belinda Jones of Stuarts Draft, Karen Shifflett and husband Donald of Crimora, Kim Sours and husband Michael of Stuarts Draft, and Barbara Hoy of Waynesboro; eight grandchildren, Renee Kite, and husband Chris of Staunton, Stacey Gore of Waynesboro, Sara McHaffa of Stuarts Draft, Jacqueline Shifflett of Grottoes, Jessica Meadows and husband Tyler of Waynesboro, Laura Shifflett of Crimora, Tyler Hoy and wife Shana of Stuarts Draft, and Brandon Hoy of Waynesboro; thirteen great-grandchildren that she loved and adored; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Rena was an avid hunter and loved fishing; she was known for having won a fishing contest with her citation bass. Her favorite pastime was watching the New York Yankees and playing cards. Rena was a joyful person and always said laughing, that “laughter was the best medicine.”

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Jolene Dewey for the company and friendship she gave the last several years, as well as to the Augusta Health Intensive Care Unit doctors and nursing staff for their compassion and care, and to the Stuarts Draft Rescue Squad.

A memorial visitation for family and friends will be held 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, April 15, 2018 at Charlton and Groome Funeral Home, 619 Lifecore Drive, Fishersville, Virginia 22939.

A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 16, 2018, at Augusta Memorial Park, Waynesboro, by Pastor Robert Hampshire.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Rena’s name to Stuarts Draft Rescue Squad, 10 Manor Road, Stuarts Draft, Virginia 24477.

We are left with her favorite words, “It’s better to laugh than to cry.”
