Peggy grew up in Western Springs, IL and attended La Grange Township High School and Junior College. After college she worked at Standard Oil, Argon National Laboratory and in fashion modeling.

Peggy married Donald in 1959 and worked at the University of Illinois and radio station WKID. She supported her husband’s career across many states while finding opportunities to increase her education at UCLA and share her love of knitting and crotchet.

In California she volunteered her time as AYSO Soccer Coach and Division Coordinator, at the Mad Attic Thrift Store and teaching seniors knitting and crochet.

When she moved to Virginia she became the Art Teacher at Ladd Elementary, substitute teacher at Valley VOTECH and established a charity knitting group and the Thursday night knitting group at the Augusta County Library. She also volunteered at St. John’s Catholic Church clothes closet and Treasures for Love resale store.

Peggy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She attended all her grandchildren’s various activities. She had a love of art, plants, books and animals, especially strays.

Peggy is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Donald Vreuls; daughter, Teri Vreuls Maerki; sons, David Vreuls and Jon Vreuls and his wife, Jacqueline; sister, Carol Rafferty Dierkes; grandchildren, Christopher, Maegan and her husband, Yusuf, Katelyn, Colleen, Briana, Erika and Katharina; great grandson, Noah; dear friend, Steven Aker Mosher and sister-in-law, Diane Vreuls Friebert and her husband, Stuart; several nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be held 11:00 am on Thursday, February 22, 2018 at St. John Evangelist Catholic Church, 300 Maple Ave., Waynesboro, VA 22980.
