Kitty Fitzgerald Cash, 63, of Vesuvius, passed away Friday, February 24, 2017, at the home of her sister in Waynesboro.

Kitty was born in Staunton on January 1, 1954, daughter of the late Robert Guy and Florence Katherine (Humphreys) Fitzgerald of Waynesboro. After graduating from Wilson Memorial High School and Valley Vocational Technical School, she moved to Hampton where she worked for the Civil Service.  Upon returning to Waynesboro, she attended Elizabeth Brandt Business School and took a job with GE/Genicom, where she worked in Purchasing for many years.  After leaving Genicom, she started her own business, Finishing Touch Catering and Granny’s Attic in Vesuvius, where she was free to cook, decorate and paint to her heart’s content.  She also oversaw the Vesuvius Heritage Museum and was active in local politics, a valuable member of the Vesuvius Community and a member of Mt. Paran Baptist Church.

Surviving are her son, Clarence T. (Tre) Cash III and his wife, Danielle of Vesuvius; two grandchildren, Alexis Rene’e and Rylan Jace Cash; a brother, K. C. Fitzgerald; sisters, Barbara Landes, Betty Rankin and Shirley Fitzgerald and many special nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents Kitty was preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, Clarence T. (C.T.) Cash Jr.; a brother, Ernest William Fitzgerald and two sisters, Hallie Elizabeth Fitzgerald and Mary Ellen (Fitzgerald) Hanger.

Kitty found great joy in life. She was an avid reader, gardener and painter. She had the eye of an artist and the heart of dreamer, able to turn seemingly dead twigs into lush green plants and blank canvasses into verdant landscapes.  She was a fan of NASCAR and country music (best played loud).  She was a keeper of history, both of her family and the community of Vesuvius.

Kitty loved many things, but most especially her family.  With four older sisters and a big brother, she often joked that she had two dads and five moms.   She and C.T. were blessed with a son of their own and two grandchildren, upon whom she doted.

A funeral service will be conducted at 12 Noon, Thursday, March 2, 2017 at Charlton and Groome Funeral Home, 619 Lifecore Drive, Fishersville, with the Rev. Fred Salmons and the Rev. Robert Fitzgerald officiating.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:00 AM until the hour of the service, 12 Noon. Interment will follow at Augusta Memorial Park, Waynesboro.
