Jay O’Neil “Neil” Knicely

Jay O’Neil “Neil” Knicely, 76, of Waynesboro died on Sunday, September 27, 2015 at Augusta Health.

Neil was born on July 9, 1939 in Grottoes to the late Harry Knicely and the late Mary Judy Knicely.

He was a member of the 1957 Waynesboro High School Undefeated State Champion Basketball Team. He was named one of the top 15 basketball players in the state of Virginia and inducted into the Waynesboro High School Hall of Fame on May 30th, 2006.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Ann Phillips Knicely and a brother, Harry “Bud” Knicely.

He is survived by a son, William O’Neil “Bill” Knicely and his wife, Tahnee R. Knicely of Waynesboro; two daughters, Karen Denice Knicely and her husband, Michael T. Truitt, Jr. of Richmond and Debbie Tiffany Bond and her husband, Michael L. Bond of Houston, TX; grandchildren, Tyler O’Neil Knicely of Waynesboro, Payton McKenna Knicely of Waynesboro, Michael Kemp Bond of San Antonio, TX and Quinn Owens Bond of Houston, TX; brother, Ronald Knicely and his wife, Sandy Knicely of Waynesboro; sister-in-law, Francis Knicely of Waynesboro; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends, Donnie Alexander, Doug and Julie Tyree.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm on Thursday, October 1, 2015 at Charlton and Groome Funeral Home, 619 Lifecore Drive, Fishersville, VA 22939 (formerly 916 Goose Creek Road).

A graveside service will be held 2:00 pm on Friday, October 2, 2015 at Augusta Memorial Park conducted by Pastor Warren Grant.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Waynesboro First Aid Crew, 201 W. Broad Street, Waynesboro, VA 22980.
