J. Fred Sturdivant

J. Fred Sturdivant 80, of Stuarts Draft, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at his home.

He was born on April 24, 1936 in Grayson County, Independence, VA to the late Lynn Watson Sturdivant and the late Allie Wingate Sturdivant.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Tommy Sturdivant, Dewy Sturdivant and Curtis Sturdivant; sisters, Dorothy S. Wheatley, Ruth Holdaway, Bessie Sturdivant and Betty S. Snyder.

He served in the US Army, was a member of Mount Vernon Church of the Brethren and was a loving husband and a devoted father.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Perneta Sturdivant; sons, Timothy “Tim” Sturdivant and Daniel Sturdivant; brother, Herbert Sturdivant; a special granddaughter, Courtney Carter; sister-in-law, Ollie Sturdivant and a brother-in-law, Bill Snyder.

The family will receive friends from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Monday, August 22, 2016 at Charlton and Groome Funeral Home, 619 Lifecore Drive, Fishersville, VA 22939

A funeral service will be held 11:00am on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at Mount Vernon Church of the Brethren, 90 Mt. Vernon Road, Waynesboro, VA 22980 conducted by The Rev. Dwight Roetto.

Interment will follow at Oak Lawn Memory Gardens, Staunton, with military honors.
