Deacon Hiawatha McCauley, Jr., “Dukie”, of Crimora, VA, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 14, 2017.

He was born in Augusta County, VA on February 13, 1935 to the late Hiawatha McCauley. Sr. and Ollie Johnson. He was a devoted and Faithful member and Deacon of Morning Star Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nannie Yancey McCauley; his daughter, Jocelyn McCauley; seven brothers, Willis, Pete and Milton Johnson, Elder Leon, Birley and Nathaniel McCauley and Louis “Snook” Johnson; two sisters, Augusta Johnson and Edith Wilson.

Deacon McCauley, “Dukie”, leaves to cherish his memory, one son, Richard “Tony” McCauley; four daughters, Roxanne Randolph, Vickie Taylor, Terrie (Kevin) McCauley and Arlene Ratcliff; twelve grandchildren, Vernice (James), Kenyatta (Shavon), Bobby (Erica), Erica, Barbaro, April, Kenneth, Anthony, Terrence, Shanelle, Damian, Desmond, Ashley, Jonathan, Colden and Clarissa and a host of great grandchildren; brother, Haywood (Nancy) McCauley, Sr. and a sister, Agnes Woodard. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins; “in-laws”, Loretta Dunnings, Geneva Matthews (Bill), Sandra Lewis, Jimmy Yancey, Michael Yancey (Frances) and a loving church family.

“Dukie”, as he was affectionately known, attended Augusta County, VA schools. He accepted Christ as his Savior early in life and served as Deacon at Morning Star Baptist Church for over 35 years. “Dukie” was the President of the Morning Star Adult Choir. He enjoyed singing in the church choir and in various quartets. Also, he was a self-taught chef – specializing in all types of dishes such as chicken ‘n dumplings and vegetable soup, to name a few. At church dinners he always expected to have sliced tomatoes and onions if you served green beans. He enjoyed watching his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews participating and excelling in sports. If you ever passed his house and heard a lot of noise on Monday night – you can believe it was TV wrestling night.

Deacon McCauley never met a stranger – if you did not know who someone was and who they were related to – just ask “Dukie”. He’s now in heaven getting reacquainted with those gone on before him.
