Gerda Luise (Gehlhaar) Mailer

Gerda Luise Mailer, 81, of Waynesboro, died Saturday November 26, 2016 at Augusta Health, Fishersville.  She was born in Rottweil, Germany on February 14, 1935, a daughter of the late Karl and Ida Gehlhaar.

Gerda was educated by the German Red Cross School of Nursing and worked as an RN in Tübingen, Germany and in the University Hospital in Zürich, Switzerland.  In 1960 she emigrated to the United States and worked for 10 years as an RN in the Augustana Hospital in Chicago.  The love for her profession was only equaled by her love for animals and gardening.  She will be missed forever by her family.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Werner Mailer; her two daughters, Gigi Zeltins and husband, Ivar and Veronica Mailer.

A memorial service will held be at 3:00 pm, Friday, December 2, 2016 in the chapel of the Charlton and Groome Funeral Home, 619 Lifecore Drive, Fishersville conducted by Pastor Pete Campbell.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to the Augusta Regional SPCA, P.O. Box 2014, Staunton, VA 24401 or your favorite charity.
