Florence "Elizabeth" (Fitzgerald) Craig

Florence “Elizabeth” Craig, 96, of Fishersville and formerly of Afton, went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at Augusta Nursing and Rehab in Fishersville.  She was born in Albemarle County on October 4, 1920 the daughter of the late Clinton Maywood Fitzgerald and Florence Izetta Vest Fitzgerald.

Elizabeth was a member of Mt. Ed Baptist Church and the YES Choir at Fishersville Baptist Church.  She enjoyed singing, reading her Bible, teaching Sunday School, working in her garden, cooking and spending time with family and friends.  She never met a stranger and always had a smile on her face!

The family would like to express special appreciation to the Staff at Augusta Nursing and Rehab for their loving care over the last six years. God bless you all!

She will be greatly missed but we know she is walking the streets of gold and praising her Lord and Savior. We look forward to the day we will meet again!

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Bernard Alexander “Bill” Craig; her daughter, Elizabeth “Ann” Groah; five brothers, Arthur, James, Gilbert and Harvey Fitzgerald and Morris Puckett and one sister, Rossie Langley.

She is survived by a special son-in-law, Chuck Groah; her three grandchildren, Tina Stewart and husband, Eric of Manassas, Julie Lawhorne and husband, Kevin of Crimora and Kari Bradshaw and husband, Hank of Waynesboro; her two great grandchildren, Erika Stewart and Alstyn Bradshaw; her sister, Evelyn Milstead and her husband, Harry of Waynesboro and special nieces, Ruth Pannell and Kathy Lauterback of Waynesboro, who enjoyed visiting her.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, October 29, 2016 at Mt. Ed Baptist Church, 1606 Craig’s Store Road, Batesville, VA 22924, conducted by The Rev. Ron Nickell Sr. and The Rev. Ron Nickell, Jr.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Active pallbearers will be, Chuck Groah, Eric Stewart, Kevin Lawhorne, Hank Bradshaw, Scott Johnson and Gary Nickell; the granddaughters and great-granddaughters will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 am until the hour of the service and at other times at the granddaughter’s residences.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Mt. Ed Baptist Church, P. O. Box 237, Batesville, VA 22924, in memory of Elizabeth Craig.
