Cyrus David Reeves, Jr

Cyrus David Reeves, Jr., 96, of Waynesboro passed away Thursday, March 1, 2012 at his home. He was born in Staunton on February 7, 1916, the son of the late Cyrus David Reeves and Bessie Clayton Lamb Reeves.

He was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School and a U. S. Navy veteran of World War II where he served as a Seabee in the Asiatic-Pacific Area.

Mr. Reeves retired as Vice-President of Huger, Davidson Sale Co. He was a member of Hermitage Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon. He was a member of Staunton Elks Lodge and he enjoyed golfing and fishing.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Ottie Mae Thurber Reeves and his sister, Nellie Mae Reeves.

He is survived by his daughter, Sandra Reeves Gruver and her husband, Richard Gruver of Waynesboro; three grandchildren, Greg Gruver and his wife, Amy of Williamsburg, Robyn Gruver Stratton and her husband, Chip of Waynesboro and Todd Gruver and his wife, Stacey of Waynesboro, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; two sisters-in-law, Rebecca Little of Maryland and Marie Eakle of California and number of nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 P. M., Sunday, March 4, 2012 at Hermitage Presbyterian Church, 46 Hildebrand Church Road, Waynesboro, conducted by The Rev. Dr. H. Wray Sherman III. Private family burial will be held in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends following the Memorial Service at the church and at other times at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, 747 Hildebrand Church Road, Waynesboro.

The family would like to express their gratitude to his caregiver and special friend, Mary Long and to the Staff of Hospice of the Shenandoah.
