Bettie Anne Mayo, 78, of Lyndhurst, passed away Thursday, March 30, 2017, at Kings Daughters Nursing and Rehab in Staunton. She was born in Richmond March 5, 1939 to the late, Ralph P. Mayo and Hilda Snead Mayo.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her loving furry animals, Amigo, Lals, Heidi, Glory, Sassy and Abby.  

Bettie Anne is survived by her Forever Soul Mate, Evelyn Smith; a brother, Tommy Mayo and wife Quilla of Hickory, N.C; Several Cousins, Beverly Snead Hill and husband Sandy; Taylor Snead and wife Cathy, and many other loving cousins of Wilmington, N.C; a long time udda sista, Cindy Holland of Annapolis, MD.

She was a very knowledgeable woman earning her Bachelor degree and Master’s degree and then moved on to her career in Teaching for 30 years at Anne Arundel County Schools in Annapolis, MD.

Bettie Anne was a Stained-Glass Artisan, she loved the outdoors such as, skiing, sailing, fishing, synchronized swimming, snorkeling and open water rescue scuba diver and camping, hiking, gardening, traveling from Alaska to South Africa, an avid reader of biographies and history. Bettie Anne loved her family and friends very much, she was very conservative in her actions, she was quiet but had a big heart that was always willing to help others.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Mountain View Mennonite Church Campground, Thursday, April 20, 2017, at 11:00 am, with Rev. Gay Hall officiating.

Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers the family has suggested In memory of Bettie Anne, Fishersville United Methodist Church 1600 Jefferson Hwy. Fishersville, Virginia 22939 or Best Friends, 5001 Angel Canyon Kanab, Utah 84741.  

Bettie Anne’s favorite expression was “Begin each day afresh and learn one new thing”.  

A Note from the Family: Please bring a lawn chair and wear casual cloths such as jeans and tennis shoes; a hat or visor. 

Directions to the Celebration of Life for Bettie Anne Mayo, From I-64, take Exit 96 towards Waynesboro/Lyndhurst head south onto S. Delphine Ave for about 1.4 miles and it will turn into Mt. Torrey Rd. continue on Mt. Torrey Rd. for about 9.3 miles and your destination will be on the right across from Reeds Gap Rd. (Rte. 664). Address 55 Love Rd. Lyndhurst, VA
